About Yinchuan

Yinchuan city, referred to as "Yin", in ancient times as "Xingqing Fu", another name "Phoenix City", is the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, located in northwest China and the middle of Ningxia Plain, is an important central city in northwest China. As of April 2024, Yinchuan has jurisdiction over 3 districts, 2 counties and 1 county-level city with a total area of 9,025.38 square kilometers. By the end of 2023, Yinchuan has a permanent population of 2,908,100. The main dialect in Yinchuan is the northern dialect.

Western Xia Imperial Tombs

Located in the middle part of the eastern foot of Helan Mountain, Xixia District, Yinchuan City, the Western Xia Imperial Tombs is the largest, highest grade and best preserved cultural relic of the Western Xia period in China. Mausoleum in the north loess ramming technology, "Helan Mountain under the ancient mound thick, high like floating water retting" is the ancient description of Xixia Mausoleum. In terms of construction style, it inherits the Tang and Song mausoleum, with the tall and magnificent dense tower as the center, integrating Helan Mountain with the Yellow River and the capital, forming a natural and harmonious scene. In 1988, Western Xia Imperial Tombs was announced by The State Council as a national key cultural relic protection unit and a national scenic spot. In 2012, it was included in the preliminary list of World Cultural Heritage in China. In 2017, it was included in the third batch of national archaeological site parks, becoming the only national archaeological site park in Ningxia; In 2021, Western Xia Imperial Tombs was selected into the national list of "century-old archaeological discoveries".

Western Xia Cultural Park

Western Xia Cultural Park is located at the foot of Helan Mountain. It is located at No. 1496, West Beijing Road, Yinchuan City. It is a national AAAA tourist attraction. The park takes the culture of the Western Xia Dynasty as the theme, takes the live performance as the main form of expression, and summarizes the essence of the Western Xia Dynasty architecture. It is simple and quiet. There are magnificent royal buildings, and there are idle chalet and cottage in the lakeside forest. The scenic spot has won honorary titles such as "Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Cultural Industry Demonstration Base" and "Yinchuan City Literary Federation Creation Base", and has been selected into the "National Preferred Tourism Project List" for many times.

Shuidonggou Site

Shuidonggou is located in the Shuidonggou Tourist Area, Linhe Town, Lingwu City, Yinchuan City, covering a total area of 7.8 square kilometers, 19 kilometers to the west of Yinchuan City, 30 kilometers to the south of Lingwu City, 11 kilometers from Hedong Airport, is a national AAAAA level scenic spot. Shuidonggou is the earliest Paleolithic cultural site excavated in China. The scenic spot is a collection of archaeological sites, canyons, soil forests, Pinghu wetlands, grassland pastoral songs, desert customs, and Great Wall forts. It is known as "the birthplace of prehistoric archaeology in China" and "the historical witness of cultural exchanges between China and the West". In 1988, The State Council announced the Shuidonggou Site as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units, which was listed by the State as one of the 100 major sites under national cultural relics protection, one of the "100 archaeological discoveries of the most significance of Chinese civilization", and won the silver award of "China's 50 Most worthy Places for foreigners to go".
